Rainbow 2nd time round

So I just like rainbows!
Plus it does also show off my new panoramic view from my flat this year.

Beer!

So this is what I spent most of my time at Spiff doing besides my Dad's stationary and logo stuff (will come later). It's a label for a bitter called Aviator (I didn't choose the name) but I quite like the outcome. Better pictures will come.

Hey Good-Looking, What's Cooking?

okay so I haven't blogged for a while, I'm blaming my bro and xbox live for using up our net allowance, nuff sed about that.

So this is my first piece of design that is actually out there!
I thought I should record such a momentous occasion with a short post.

It's a menu for a coffee shop called Cuckoos.
The pictures only show the outside because that is what I did, the inside was done by the boss at one of my placements though I did a lot of the typesetting. I don't want anyone looking at this to be disillusioned by my design skills (or lack of).

So here it is in all it's glory.

Odds and ends/Bits and pieces/Are most interesting

I took these maybe 2 weeks or so ago trying to find some inspiration for my dad's logo,
inspiration not so much but I did like a lot of the photos.

It's just interesting how small items in large quantities take on a whole new aesthetic.

Fuses are pretty too.

Mould is the word

Just a little character I made last year and had forgotten about until the other day when I saw him on the windowsill.

See, Mould can be cute!

An apple a day ...

...is nice!

No really. Just saw it and had to take a picture. Yes. I am THAT sad.

This is for you Mike, eagerly anticipated I know.

//Like Father/Like Daughter//

So I've had this little mania with apple stickers for a while now.
As I type this, I'm reminded that I have yet to desticker our flat as I stick them everywhere.
I mean everywhere.
I love getting away with sticking a new sticker onto someone's door or possession
and them not noticing.
It's a full-on guilty pleasure. I'm like a sneaky little apple sticker sticking imp.

And I'd forgotten that I'm not the only one who does this.
My Dad does it too. But only on his lunchbox lid because he's an adult.
Funny how you don't notice these things isn't it?

Nanoquarks & Jellybeans

For a project earlier in the year, we had to explain the process of nanoquarks turning into jellybeans. Yes, it is as odd as it seems. But I thought it's a pretty funny little flipbook, why not share it?

Quips and giggles

So now I've finished uni for the year I have no excuse not to blog.
On that vein, here's the animations that I did for the corporate identity of my TV channel.

It's called Quip.
It's intelligent comedy.
Witty not humorous.

and here's the other two ...

So worth the stress

Okay, so I didn't use the flowers that I spent ages pressing.
Pressing flowers is a valuable life skill, like knitting, not that I know how to knit like.

Anyway.
This is the final set of my boundaries/Hamlet/sense and nonsense posters.
I now have loads of them as the plotter doesn't like to print on card so it prints it again when you put the roll back on as if it doesn't believe you've already printed. Silly thing.

Despite this, I'm kind of proud of these.

Whoever knew that you could press flowers with a microwave?

One of my posters for my final major project is about a scene with Ophelia in it and since she talks about flowers a lot and my tutors are really into me using the context of the scene to influence the design... and to err.. not use my mac so much....what? I finally worked it out!

But I totally get what they mean so I thought ooo I could press my own as a background. So I went and bought some and put them in a book, with many books on top of them (see picture) but they really weren't that pressed after 2 days. So, after a little research, I then discover that you should really leave them for several weeks not days.

Now, I don't have weeks so I was pleased to discover that you can put them in the microwave for 30 seconds to a min at a time to speed up the process. Yes, the microwave! But a small warning, it does smell and the pages of your book do get stained (you put the book in the microwave too) but it don't half work a treat!

Just got to wait for them to dry out now.

//Like the circles that you find/ In the windmills of your mind//

Still having a little trouble getting my final major together as my ideas keep changing and becoming complex and therefore harder to make. My tutors are pushing for a more handmade feel and I agree, just having things handmade takes so long!

So whilst my flowers are still pressing I thought I would put my prelim set of ideas up just because I like them really. I think I'm going to keep the purple one as one of the final set.
Oh, the idea is about sense and nonsense, the smaller text is from selected Hamlet scenes and the larger text is a nonsense poem I made from words in the scene. Finding sense in nonsense or nonsense in sense...Get it?

See, it all makes sense.

Scanning=procrastination

Today I have done so much scanning and photocopying and after a while you find yourself thinking what would happen if I scan this? Well here are a few examples...Who knows? I might even use them one day.

Rainbows

The rainbow or rainbows you could see from our kitchen window this afternoon. Lovely, ain't it?

Okay so I didn't get ISTD this year...There's always next year!

I'm being positive about not getting ISTD this year, I mean I still think it's pretty good that I got selected at all since I'm a second year. And I'm maintaining that I didn't get it as my piece doesn't function as an actual map but then I didn't design it too. It's a a map of history of Hull's street names, not a proper map!

hello

First post! How exciting.

Just wanted to say hello.
