Finally Filmic 6!

Here it is people. Check it. Tell your friends too. Sorry it took so long! Actually not my fault (promise) as you cant finish a magazine without all its content. But now he's finished his dissertation he has no excuse. Plus it's a massive issue, at forty two pages I'm pretty sure its the biggest yet. Hope you enjoy and except the next issue soon!

News

Hi people, or anyone who reads this. I have news. Like BIG news. Absolute mentalness. Complete. Utter. Weirdness. Ok so number one. I have a job, you know like a proper full-time design job, you know like one I've been hunting for like a year. Which is amazing, since I thought it was an interview for a placement. Needless to say I was shocked when they mentioned money. You want to pay me? Well heck. So I said YES. (Just done my first week and they are still being nice to me - gasp! Seems so surreal. Still.)

But then last week, I get an email. An email from Elle. That's right - Elle magazine, replying to a request for an internship in 2012. Can I do one of TWO in the next month. I think I fell off my bed. When it rains, it really pours, doesn't it? But the thing is, do I quit the job I haven't even started for an interview with Elle?  When I'm unsure if I can afraid afford to live in the London on my own for a month, I mean it was paid but you don't get paid up front do you? So after 24 hours of stress, tears and hairpulling, I declined the internship, or prospect of one anyway. Yes, I know but a REAL job that was guaranteed. For sure. Yes, I'm practical but that don't mean I won't be chasing my magazine dreams in the future. If it's meant to be it'll happen when I can actually do it. And yes, I still feel extreme guilt for not doing it but sometimes you have to make tough decisions. Did I choose right? Well I guess I'll find out, won't I?

Oh, I don't know if you've noticed but I've changed my blog AGAIN. I can't wait until I can code myself something prettier. Website is still coming, by the way, it is happening, under construction as they say. Also I'm thinking of publishing the half done version of Filmic 6 while it's still spring and starting on 7 when my lovely writer-reviewer is back.  He's far too busy doing his oh-so-important dissertation right now. Pfff. Who needs honors in their degree? Anyway, that's all readers. Until next time. Oh no I forgot, will be uploading some pictures of a mock up website that I finished before I left my placement to go to my new job. That's something to look forward to isn't it? Don't do anything I wouldn't.

Nearly treason

I nearly committed treason today guys. That's right, I nearly switched to tumblr. Luckily though I realised the error of my ways before it was too late. And I'm very sorry.

Things on the coding front are going well, now I just have to design myself something! Let the hardship begin.

Oh and by the way, I'm thinking of posting a preview of Filmic 06 as it's taking so long so you don't forget me!

Where has the time gone?

Seems like the last month and a half has been a blur. As you can see there are more changes to the blog! Hopefully there will be more posts in the future, we're about half finished with filmic 06 and for a sneaky peek I can can tell you that we'll be including reviews of black swan and tangled as well as a new feature that would be a pull out if it were a printed piece called 'challenge 250'. As Adam has as part of his new year resolution or something, decided to watch all of IMBD's top 250 films as of jan 5th, which should turn into a nice follow on feature. The next thing to pop up should be my new business cards which are all designed but I just have to decide on a colour card and buy said card to print as the colour I bought only yesterday will not do! So pictures of that will be forthcoming and maybe some of the self initiated work I've started will get posted soon.

Plus have I mentioned that I'm teaching myself web design? Yes, could be the worst decision in the world but it's a valuable skill to have if you're a designer really. So, who knows? Maybe I will be able to fix my website after all! (Any help would be appreciated. Tips anyone?)

Hi, so new year, new issue. Bad news is though that we have to go bimonthly for a while as my writer has a dissertation to write and as you all know it's quite important. However on the other hand, in this issue as well as FOUR reviews there is a festive films section and a look at some upcoming films. Go on, have a read. It's that time of year again

And the snow is falling all around us, children playing, etc. Just wanting to wish anyone reading this, a merry Christmas and a wonderful new year! Hope it's lovely.

Self promotion

Self promotion is hard, isn't it? I mean it's like putting yourself out there without a safety net. But in times like these you have to, don't you? Besides if you don't put yourself out there, how will people know who you are? Okay. Enough questions. Above is a poster that you will be seeing in a music shop near you (well only if you live near me) advertising my services for posters and such. Here's hoping it'll work eh?

So the snow's getting a bit crazy isn't it? Well since I can't go anywhere I've been getting on with a bit of work that's been in my head for a while now. I'm fairly pleased with both.

Okay so this issue took a little longer than the rest but someone had uni commitments and you cant design without content, can you? On the whole though I really like this issue as I had all that extra time to push the design forward. So take a look and tell me what you think!

Strike: a path to success

Okay so this is a little something that should have been up here a while ago but I've been a bit lax on the cyber social media deal recently so here I am playing catch up. It's a piece that I did for an agency who gave me this brief to see what I can do. Sadly not up to their standards but still not a bad job. Strike were on 'Britain's got talent' and now work in community projects and this was a spin off of this.

This is a poster I did for some colleagues who set up this night with a moving agenda of artists each month,  it has a wild west theme and could become a series of posters if all goes well. Oh and I created the background too which I'm quite proud of.

So I just wanted to put something out there that wasn't Filmic. (Still no comments, come on!) To show that I do other things with my time. So here's a little identity I've done some work on. It might turn into a vehicle wrap or a stationary set as yet. I haven't decided.
